Love Letters for Black Folks was a deeply heartfelt live donation initiative rooted in care, affirmation, and strong community bonds. Organized in the vibrant city of Detroit, MI, the project warmly invited participants to either receive a thoughtfully prepared care package or volunteer their time and love to create one—each one carefully filled with handwritten letters, moving poetry, and wellness items such as soothing tea, healing tinctures, fragrant herbs, homemade baked goods, and nourishing lotions. These beautifully curated packages, affectionately known as “Love Letters,” were designed with the intention to uplift, nurture, and provide gentle comfort to Black individuals, offering precious moments of joy, rest, and rejuvenation in their everyday lives. Fundraising events hosted by the Black Activist Mobility Network, the Free Black Women’s Library, and Hollaback! Detroit powered this inspiring and community-driven effort. Drawing inspiration from Black Feast’s acclaimed "Love Letters to Black Folks" projects in Portland, OR, and Oakland, CA, the Detroit initiative carried forward the beautiful spirit of collective care—honoring, celebrating, and cherishing Black lives through intentional, tangible acts of love and solidarity.
