Juneteenth Celebration at Hart Plaza Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States and is often referred to as the "longest-running African-American holiday" or “America’s second Independence Day.” In honor of this historic day, the Black Activist Mobility Network hosted a vibrant Juneteenth celebration at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The event transformed the iconic space into a joyful, community-centered gathering filled with food, games, live music, and booths featuring local Black-owned businesses. It served as both a celebration of Black culture and a tribute to Black resilience, while fostering unity, empowerment, and remembrance.
